With a name like humus.com you can be sure that we have a commitment to healthy soil, yet when we made an Internet search on compost we found out almost more than we wanted to know.

Our view is that a person doesn't have to be very sophisticated to start a compost pile, its just a very sophisticated thing to do. Almost any vegetable scrap from the kitchen will compost just fine and the biggest concern when establishing a compost pile is finding a convenient out of the way spot that's not too far from the kitchen. Like one of our neighbors said, "I 'm proud of my compost pile but I don't put it right out by the driveway for everybody to see."

If you're not into composting yet and have any outdoor space at all we say a compost pile fits right in with the good life. Robert Rodale built a huge information legacy based on the simple premise that humus was good for the garden, and of course he was right.

The Europeans are better, more serious composters because they lack the space to landfill everything. This link is a reference to hundreds of newsgroup discussion items on composting techniques.

We are looking to establish a link to Midwest Bio-ag right here. They are a fine supplier of biological farming products and advice.

An finally we have this link to the Rodale Press. We give the Rodale organization a lot of credit for moving forward the concept of Sustainable Agriculture through their now extinct New Farm magazine. Maybe we can find a way to get some of the best articles from New Farm on-line www.rodalepress.com:80/GARDENING.HTM
