Animation gives web pages something that even the slickest magazine or book cannot have, but... we also find that too many scrolling banners, flashing icons, animations and the like can be obnoxious and distract from the page.

The web is still primarily based on text and the real strength of web pages lies in hyperlinks that guide us down a path or allow us to choose our own path. Even though we like animations a lot, we'll try to limit them to places where they help illustrate a point or add an element of surprise....
